Inspired By Present, Past & Future

An organisation about community, heritage and craftsmanship.

ABOUT US

The ‘International Oud Association’ (IOA) was established in 2018 with the aim of safeguarding and promoting the cultural heritage of the Oud. The Association will enable people to experience the music by setting up workshops and community activities, it will preserve and further develop the ancient art and skill of Oud making and its music and facilitate access to the unique cultural heritage of the Oud.

We aspire to create space(s), where musicians and instrument makers can exchange ideas and gain recognition through workshops, exhibitions, seminars, festival and concerts. The IOA will foster the relations between Oud musicians and Oud makers and other active partners to further develop this music.

The IOA is a non-profit organization registered in Paris, France and subjected to the French law of July 1st, 1901 and the decree of August 16th, 1901.

The three pillars

Our project is founded upon three pillars

  • The IOA community

  • The IOA Oud-making school

  • Keeping the heritage of the Oud alive

Reviving the Oud, saving its endangered craftsmanship and rebuilding the community of Oud lovers across the world is the shared vision of the IOA. We aspire to create an active community of Oud lovers and see it growing around our initiative. We aim to instruct professional artisans in the tradition of handcrafted fine Oud making, to preserve the heritage of the Oud for future generations and to introduce new audiences to the Oud, bringing East and West together in the shared love of music.

OUR CORE VALUES

We respect and value each other. The IOA will create an atmosphere of respect, dignity, and acceptance, transcending all differences (e.g. gender, age, politics or religion).

We take responsibility for using our resources efficiently, achieving measurable results and being accountable to donors, partners and beneficiaries.

We embrace change and new ideas while applying rigorous criteria to protect our shared heritage.

We are driven by our passion for the Oud and led by a conviction that this part of the world’s culture must be protected for future generations.

We aspire to achieve the best and set standards that value both craftsmanship and music.
